To look and be at your best on your wedding day requires intensive and organized planning. New Woman draws up a ready reckoner for everything you need to keep in mind for your big day. Keep ticking as you go along.
"Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself - Coco Chanel." So, why be any different on the most important day of your life? More than anyone else, a bride knows, how she would want to look on her wedding day for she has been researching on it for years and making mental notes. A little help from friends and experts is great to listen to and may be, follow. But overall, to carry a look for the prolonged duration of the day, a bride must be comfortable, confident and in unison with the hair, make up, accessories, footwear, garments and everything that will complete her bridal look.
Plan ahead
To avoid last-minute anxiety, pre-planning plays a vital role. Most time-consuming activities must be initiated as soon as the wedding date is fixed. For example, pre-bridal skin and hair treatments and bridal wear selection process are two such most important aspects. Anything that has not been tried on, must never be a part of the look. Pre-bridal skin treatments with the dermatologist must be scheduled atleast few months in advance, for they need time gaps between sessions and time for results to show.
With wedding season on, hair/makeup stylists get booked well in advance. Hence, the moment, the bridal wear selection in terms of colour, cut and work on it, has been finalised, a trial run with the referred or chosen hair/make-up stylist/s must be carried out and the final one blocked. It must be ensured that anything chosen in terms of colour, highlighting, contouring etc. must be in line with your personal features, else it can look very dramatic and even odd.
Bridal dos
Bridal wear selection must take into consideration your skin color, for a paler skin can carry off any color outfit, a darker tone goes better with matt golden and similar tones than red, brown and their variants. We all know what we can flaunt and what needs to be hidden / camouflaged with styling wonders. For example, buy a short choli and lehenga look only if you have a toned midriff. If not, please go for a longer, suitably fitted kurti style choli with your lehenga. Whatever look you decide on, whether it is a saree, sharara or a lehenga choli, please ensure you can carry it off with ease and panache, for any discomfort and every photo/video of that memorable day will show it for life.
Accessory story
Next come accessories and footwear. These two aspects must be well-coordinated with the bridalwear. That is, if your bridal wear is very heavy and overly worked on with crystals, embroidery, beads, thread work, gotapatti, other kinds of laces etc., try and keep accessories on the lighter side to avoid over doing and creating a clutter. If it is vice versa, accentuate your minimalist bridal wear with heavy accessories. Footwear should be comfortable; especially the heel-length which should be within the comfort zone.
Beauty talk
Men too need to groom themselves. Gone are those days when only the 'Haldi Chandan' ceremony on wedding day made the groom look glowing. Times have evolved and so should the grooms. Skin and hair treatments are a common denominator between both the sexes. Undesired hair removal to ensure personal hygiene must be respected.
Click-happy
Wedding pictures are a memory for generations to come, and we all aspire to look our best. One must try to be in their best shape possible through regular exercising. It also helps with blood circulation, skin toning and most of all, increasing energy levels in general.
Smell wonderful
Last but not the least, to keep smelling fresh through the evening, personal hygiene must be maintained at all times, ensuring usage of perfumed roll-ons, minimal Eau-de-toilette, skin moisturisers, breath freshners etc. These are basics, but vital personal hygiene pillars.
