Best multi-tasking make-up tricks to save the day

Cream blush as lipstick or mascara as eyeliner? If you thought that make-up products can be used only in certain ways then you are wrong. The trick lies in using essentials that can multi-task. Anusha Iyengar speaks to experts and finds out how you can use them in multiple ways to save time and money and look gorgeous in a jiffy.

You have to go on a date post your presentation at work. You are running late and need to get ready at the speed of light. You hunt for your make-up products in your bag and realise that, you do not have all that you need. Seems like a nightmare, doesn’t it? The solution lies in your vanity kit. You can get the perfect look even with minimal make-up products. We tell you how to make the most of your vanity kit.

Foundation as eyeshadow primer

Foundation is often used as a base for your make-up to ensure that it lasts for a longer time. You can use a foundation as an eyelid primer also before applying an eyeshadow. Just brush or dot the foundation over your eyelid and blend it carefully. After you’ve blended the foundation, apply the eyeshadow. This will ease the application and help it stay intact for a longer duration.

Eyeshadow as eyeliner, contour or eyebrow filler

You can use your eyeshadow as eyeliner on your upper lash line. Use an angle brush and make sure you don’t get the product on your lashes or inside your waterline. Depending on the colour of the eyeshadow, you can also use it for contouring and filling out your eyebrows. Using the eyeshadow brush for contouring gives you good precision and a great result.

Lipstick as blush

This is a popular technique followed by make-up artists. You can use your lipstick as a cheek stain or a blush. Just dab a minimal amount of lipstick on your cheeks and blend it in properly. Use your fingers to blend the product onto your cheeks or even a good professional blending brush will do the trick.

Cream blush as eyeshadow or lipstick

Depending on the colour, you can use your blush as an eyeshadow. You can also turn it into a lipstick if you do not have the desired shade in your lipstick collection and want to save some time. All you need to do is mix your cream blush with some lip balm and apply it on your lips using a lip brush. It gives the same effect as a lipstick.

Mascara as eyeliner

If you don’t have eyeliner in your vanity kit, mascara is all that you need to save the day. Use the tip of the mascara brush, which has most of the product, and gently apply it on you upper lash line. You can also use ear bud or an angle brush to give your eyeline the desired shape towards the end of your eye. Again make sure you don’t get any of the product inside your eyes because cleaning up can get very messy. Not only will your make-up get ruined but you might also contract an eye infection.

Lip liner as eyeliner and vice versa

A lip liner can double up as eyeliner and vice versa, but only to a certain extent. You can experiment with myriad colours over your weekend and try out new funky looks. However, you do need to take some precautions. “Be careful while using lip pencil on the eyes. They shouldn’t be used inside the waterline or very close to the lash line. However, they can be used on the upper eyelid,” advises Natasha Nischol, co-founder and co-owner of Fat Mu Academy, Mumbai.
