A guide to avoid Debit-Credit fraud

Since we can be robbed of our confidential banking information we need to be constantly on our guard. Revelation of such information can not only lead to loss of money but also identity theft. Adopt these smart ways to keep yourself secure in this day and age of hi-tech banking.

Always be vigilant

Your credit/debit card information is confidential; so you need to guard it like your own private secret. Do not divulge the information and if you make purchases online, make sure that the company is genuine and not a sham that swindles money.

Keep your cards safe

Safeguard your cards just like your cash. Store them in compartments of your purse where no one but you can reach. You don’t want someone to steal your cards and go on an all-expenses-paid shopping spree.

Block it

If you lose or are robbed of your card, call up the issuing bank and get your card blocked at once. This will obstruct all transactions once you have reported your lost/stolen card.

Signed forever

Make sure that your signature on the back of your card is done with a permanent marker or a pen, whose ink will not run or go blurry. Your signature is used by the cashier for reference when you sign your receipt. If the signatures don’t match, authorities will be informed of possible fraud activity.

Check and re-check

Keep all your card receipts and then crosscheck them with the billing statement. If the numbers don’t add up, you will know that something is amiss.
